Nevermind. A merchandiser cancelled plans this week for a controversial Kurt Cobain-inspired shirt after widespread backlash and outcry.

For sale on Etsy and eBay, the shirts in question were printed with Cobain’s suicide letter. The baseball tees in various colors and solid tanks featured the handwritten letter across the front of the tops.

The controversial shirts were exposed on Reddit in a thread entitled “Apparently you can now buy a shirt with a picture of Kurt Cobain’s suicide note.” The post sparked hundreds of responses and quickly incited an online backlash from Nirvana fans and concerned parties alike.

“People actually purchasing that Kurt Cobain suicide note shirt aren’t just being disrespectful to him but also to his family,” one Twitter user wrote

“Why would anyone buy a tshirt with Kurt Cobain’s suicide note on it, do you realize that’s romanticizing suicide (also highly insensitive),” another added

Following the outcry, the shirts, which were retailing for $14.99 and $25.19, were removed from sale by Etsy and eBay.

The note featured on the items of clothing was found after the Nirvana rocker’s April 1994 death at the age of 27. Cobain addressed the letter to his imaginary friend Boddah, and mentioned his then-wife Courtney Love and his daughter Frances Bean
