How Many Times Has Niecy Nash Been Married? The 'Reno 911' Star Tied the Knot Again in 2020

Publish date: 2024-05-28

Actor Niecy Nash surprised the world with her marriage announcement on August 31, 2020. But it wasn’t just her sexuality that sparked interest in the subject matter — it was also the timing, given her recent divorce. How many people has she been married to? Here’s a look back at Nash’s career and relationship history.

Niecy Nash rose to fame the early ’00s

Nash began acting in the ’90s, appearing in films such as Boys on the Side. In the ’00s, she landed recurring roles on series like City of Angels and The Bernie Mac Show. But Nash’s breakout role came when she scored the part of Deputy Raineesha Williams in the mockumentary comedy Reno 911!

In the years since, Nash has continued to dominate the small screen. In addition to hosting the Daytime Emmy-winning reality program Clean House, the actor has made waves for her Emmy-nominated roles in series such as Getting On and the Netflix miniseries When They See Us.

At the time, she was married to Don Nash

Unlike many stars, Nash has been credited under her married name from the beginning of her career. She married Don Nash in 1994, just one year before Boys on the Side (her first credited role) was released. Together, they have three children: Dominic, Donielle, and Dia.

The Nashes split in 2007, while Nash’s career was thriving. But that doesn’t mean she didn’t struggle in the wake of it. “My first marriage was to a pastor, and with that divorce, I lost my husband, my pastor and my church, just like that,” she said at the 2020 Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards Luncheon (via People).

Nash later married Jay Tucker

A few years later, Nash married her second husband, Jay Tucker. The pair got engaged in 2010 and tied the knot in 2011. Tucker and Nash announced their intent to divorce in 2019. “My second divorce was made public by someone other than me,” Nash said in the 2020 speech.

“I know myself better and more fully than I ever have before,” she continued. “There was a huge myth that I inherited from the women in my family specifically, which is ‘You are nothing without a man. Get one, keep one, no matter what,” Nash said, adding that she recognized her worth “whether you have a man or not.”

She and Jessica Betts tied the knot in August 2020

Less than one year after announcing her split from Tucker and five months after her divorce was finalized, Nash revealed she has married for the third time. Having never made their relationship public, many were surprised to learn that Nash married musician Jessica Betts.

“Mrs. Carol Denise Betts,” she captioned the photo announcement on social media, using her birth name, Carol Denise. She tagged Betts in the image, as well as hashtagging “#LoveWins” and a rainbow, the pride symbol of the LGBTQ community. Nash also posted a pic of the couple in her Instagram Story, writing, “#PlotTwist”
