[Spoiler alert: Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 8 spoilers ahead.]
Chicago P.D. Season 9 continues to show Hailey Upton’s struggle with the death of Roy Walton. At the end of Chicago P.D. Season 8, she killed Roy after he shot Kim Burgess twice, and Hank Voight helped dispose of the body. Now, in Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 8, the FBI is on to Upton. So, does she confess to killing Roy?
Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 1 showed Hailey Upton grappling with the death of Roy Walton. Roy shot Kim Burgess twice in the stomach and left her for dead, and Hank Voight was the one to find Roy initially and rough him up. While Upton found Voight with Roy and encouraged Voight to arrest Roy and take him in, she ended up shooting Roy when he went for Voight’s gun. After that Voight and Upton decided to keep the killing a secret — but it was destroying Upton.
Eventually, Jay Halstead learned the truth from Voight. It deeply affected their relationship within the Intelligence Unit. And it seems the truth might reach an even bigger audience in Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 8.
The promo, as posted to the One Chicago Twitter, shows an FBI agent interrogating Upton over Roy — though it seems the agent believed Upton was covering up the killing for someone else. “You know what men do,” the agent told her. “You’ve seen it your whole life. You saw what Roy Walton did. One woman on your team, you saw what he did to her. Roy Walton’s dead. You covered it up.”
Does Hailey Upton confess to killing Roy?
Does Hailey Upton confess to killing Roy Walton in Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 8? Prior to episode 8, only Upton, Hank Voight, and Jay Halstead know the truth. Even Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek have no idea Roy’s dead. But episode 8 took an unexpected turn.
Celeb Dirty Laundry reports Upton was saved by Voight just before she might’ve given a confession. Agent Walker North interviewed everyone on the Intelligence Unit regarding Roy. While speaking to Upton, he noted she didn’t share her whereabouts the night of Roy’s death. He then began to pull out papers showing she never made contact with Mark Irwin, a man she was scheduled to contact the night of Roy’s death. So, does Upton spill everything she knows? Thankfully, she’s saved by Voight knocking on the door before she can speak.
Voight and Halstead agree they need to protect Upton at all costs, so it seems they won’t spill, either. Then, when North questions Upton later on about Roy, she holds firm to her lie. She tells him she’s busy with actual police matters and he’s wasting her time.
Unfortunately, that’s not the end of the trouble for Upton. At the end of the episode, North finds Roy’s body — and he tracks down Halstead to give him a choice. Either North arrests Halstead and Upton for their crimes, or Halstead and Upton assist him in taking down Voight.
By the end of episode 8, North, Halstead, Upton, and Voight know the truth about Roy, but the rest of the Intelligence Unit remain in the dark.
Is Hailey Upton leaving ‘Chicago P.D.’?
With everything that’s happened so far, is Hailey Upton leaving Chicago P.D. for good? She was deeply affected by killing Roy, and her current situation could result in her arrest. Additionally, it puts her relationship with Jay Halstead on the line. Is there a chance she could leave the Intelligence Unit given everything that went wrong?
While Upton’s future as a cop remains uncertain, actor Tracy Spiridakos seems to think there’s a lot more storyline for Upton moving forward. This likely means Upton’s here to stay. During an interview with TV Insider, she noted there was still a lot of ground to cover in Upton’s story by episode 5 of the new season. “The guilt of it all and keeping it a secret from Burgess, keeping it a secret from Halstead, is a struggle and we see her kind of unravel throughout,” she added.
Chicago P.D. Season 9 airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
