Internet Sobs As Cat Mom Has Only One Kitten and Raises Him 'Forever'
The internet has been left in tears as they watch the heartwarming moment a cat raises her one and only kitten.
The TikTok video shared by owner Clarissa (@frumpyqueer) has racked up 4.2 million views.
The video begins with Bean lying next to her orange newborn kitten over two years ago, and then cuts to a more recent video in which the kitten, Sweepy, is an adult but not too old to be groomed by his mother. An on-screen caption reads: "POV: your cat gave birth to one kitten and you decided to let her raise him forever."
The heartwarming video has been a huge hit online and amassed over 683,000 likes since it was posted on December 13. To watch the video, click here.
Compared to humans, a cat's pregnancy tends to be much shorter and averages at around 63 to 65 days.
International Cat Care states that cats usually have an average of four kittens in each litter. But larger litters are seen more frequently in pedigree breeds such as Oriental, Siamese and Burmese. In this case, Bean is a multicolored moggy which are also known as tortoise shell cats.
Labor can range from five to 30 minutes, according to the England-based charity that also states cats are quite happy to eat and drink after giving birth.
Sadly, not all owners have the same experience as some cats reject their kittens. Previously Newsweek spoke to Celia Haddon, a cat expert and author of Being Your Cat, who said: "It's normal for a mother cat to reject her kittens. Indeed, she should be doing this—at the right time. It is part of teaching her kittens how to cope with their future life."
But sometimes a mother cat will reject her kittens at birth which can impact their survival as they are far too young to eat solid food therefore a human may need to step in and help by bottle feeding them.
In some cases, cats decide to foster and care for kittens as if they were their own, despite the fact that they aren't related. Like this rescue cat who instantly fell in love with a foster kitten who had a rough start to life.
So far, the video has received over 1,970 comments—some of which are from Clarissa, the owner, who told another user: "Omg it's been the most amazing experience."
One comment has over 23,200 likes, it said: "Adult cat is like 'mom! Don't embarrass me in public!'"
A fourth comment said: "This is so precious. He looks so much bigger than her."
