In March of 2005, Puerto Rican actress and TV host Adamari Lépez held a press conference to announce she's is getting treatment for stage 1 breast cancer but is expected to recover. Her boyfriend of two years, Latin Grammy winner Luis Fonsi, also from Puerto Rico, canceled tour plans to be by her side. Adamari underwent a partial mastectomy.

Lépez and Fonsi married June 3, 2006. They decided to freeze embryos, because of both Adamari's age (she is now 41) and the effects of the cancer treatment on her ability to have children. The couple adamantly refused to discuss their decision.

3. AN END & NEW BEGINNING

The pair announced their split in a joint statement in November of 2009. After Fonsi filed for divorce, it was finalized one year after their breakup. Based on the settlement, Lépez and Fonsi must agree for either of them to use their embryos, which they still refused to discuss publicly. Moving on, in July of 2011, Fonsi announced he is expecting a baby with his new girlfriend, Spanish model égueda Lépez. Mikaela, a baby girl, is born Dec. 20, 2011.

4. ALL IS REVEALED

In a tell-all book, Viviendo (Living), which was released Dec. 31 and excerpted in PEOPLE en Español, Lépez claimed for the first time that Fonsi had been unfaithful during their marriage. "I have learned to be brave, to confront my fears and share them," she said. Weeks later in an extensive statement, Fonsi called the book's claims false and "a personal attack."

5. TEARS & OUTRAGE

During an emotional interview on Telemundo's Al Rojo Vivo, Lépez talked about her battle with cancer and her relationship with Fonsi. "My body changed. I wasn't as skinny. I was bloated. I was, in some way, deformed," she said of the effects of her treatment. Of her then-husband, she added, "He told me once that he no longer desired me as a woman. I think that was, for me, one of the hardest moments ... Your world falls apart." Social media sites lit up with outrage over Lépez's accusations. Fonsi's fans also went online to support the singer, who finally responded on Monday: "I am not that person," he said. "What she has said is a complete lack of respect for my integrity as a human being."
